| How to Deal With Poor Tattoo Choices: A Guide for Those from a Low Socio-Economic Background
mother of baby: i have a tattoo of my ex-boyfriend's name, brian. but when i found out i was pregnant i thought maybe i could name the baby brian and then it's like the tattoo is for him nurse: ...well that's cheaper than getting a cover-up, i suppose mother: yeah but the baby's father doesn't like the name brian

| facebook, and being depressed about where i'm living, have taken over my life so lj has been pushed to the side.
if things go my way (and there is no doubt they won't) i will be landing in sydney with cats by my side in about 20 days and leaving derby behind as a mostly painful memory.
please cross fingers for me. ta. | comments: 13 comments or Leave a comment |

| tomorrow is monday, it will be my 6th shift for the week and my 3rd last day to complete my J Odyssey application.
i've been working like mad to get this thing as perfect as possible. it's been really interesting just to research and i've had to change my statement saying where i want to go and why a couple of times now.
originally i wanted to go from Finland to Ugande as they have the most and least nurses, respectively. but i changed my mind as i started to research and now it's not just a quest to look at hospitals, but i want to have a look at the social, political and religious differences between places.
where i want to go, their amount of nurses per 100,000 people, and why i want to go there:
- Norway (2065): to visit my Norwegian housemates and the hospital where one of them works, to eat some elk stew, to travel north by train to the Lofoten Islands, to (maybe) see the Northern Lights, to look lustily at tall Norwegian boys in suits
- Cuba (744*): see Communism in action, to drink lots of Bicardi, to check out Santeria (kinda like voodoo!), to (maybe) check out Guantanamo Bay
- South Africa (388): to visit my friend Drew, to check out his missionary work, to examine the effects of aparthied
- Sierra Leone (33): to work with Medecins sans Frontieres and/or Mercy Ships, to look at the gem trade
- Libera (6): to look at the Mercy Ships 'floating hospital' that will be docked there, to look at a place rebuilding after civil war
after working here in a remote area of Australia i've seen things that i would've thought couldn't exist in a country like this, one that is supposedly 1st world. so how do we really compare against a country rated 'the safest in the world' like Norway, to a country struggling to rebuild with non-existant services like Liberia?

this hasn't been a real trip in my eyes. i've stayed in nice hotels and eaten lots of western food. i could be anywhere. i could've spent the past 2 weeks in sydney but the people speak poorer english and are more insistant that you buy their items for sale.
it's looking like housebuying is on like diddy-kong for me next year. there's a suburb a few kilometres north of hobart called 'chigwell' and i quite fancy buying there because the houses are cute, cheap and i could refer to the town as 'chiggy'.
please come visit me if i move there. we'll go climb a mountain together. and feel really freakin' cold. | comments: 11 comments or Leave a comment |
| hello, i'm in asia.
did you know that?
staying in Hue tonight, it's somewhere south of Hanoi. one more week until i'm back in Sydney.
i'm only counting down the days because i have a feeling this would've been a more fun trip on my own. no trouble, as i've already bought an old copy of Southeast Asia on a Shoestring and i'm planning a 4 week escape in the midsemester break next year. providing i get accepted into a midwifery grad dip next year.
so far, i have taken about 3 photos due to my general foul mood (and leaving the camera behind at the hotel during the one half-day i enjoyed myself, by myself).
i managed to spend US$500 (~AU$660) in 5 days in a country where i can buy a huge meal for AU$2. that's fairly disgusting. it doesn't even include travel or accommodation, as i paid for it all before i left.
i like buying presents too much. | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |

| on friday, saturday and sunday 3 fine travelettes (kelly, ramona and myself) all headed out for some adventure in the kimberley up the gibb river road.
we had a fantastic time, have a click on my flickr link to see the photos.
this will easily go down as one of the most AWESOME times of my life - definitely one to tell the grandkiddiwinks about.

| ETA: oops! it didn't actually click that i accidentally posted this to my lj instead of audiography, but you can enjoy it too :)
i never really stopped to consider the time signature of songs in my collection, and when i did i just discovered 2 in a current playlist (one after the other) are both in 3/4 time. or possibly 6/8, but i'm not sure and i did quit studying music in high school for a reason.
'Beg Your Pardon' - Josh Pyke when he played at the Falls Fest in Tassie over new years he dedicated it to everyone who was there with someone special, but to me it seems more of a break-up/unrequited love song. it's very sweet with accoustic guitar and generally makes me swoon and fall in love with Josh a little more each time. (buy 'Feeding the Wolves')
'Building Ships (live)' - Lior thought i'd post the live version, but the studio version is just as lovely. his vocals differ a bit from the original, but i don't think he performs any song the same way twice. maybe i just get a bit caught up in the song, but it does have the feel of being on a boat out at sea. (buy 'Doorways of my Mind')
oh gosh, i've just noticed a Fionn Regan track is also 3/4... | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |

| arrived back from broome yesterday and went to work for a crap-crappy shift. oh well.
at least i was out of broome, as soon as i arrived on tuesday i wanted to go back to derby.
my dad drove back with me and he's fussing around with the car and doing god knows what else until he flies out on wed. he's also irritating me greatly.
oh, and the cats are now officially mine (!!!).
it was a bit of a snap decision last night. mostly because i wanted the boy to be called owen and not coby.
plus they're awesome! | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| me and my big mouth.
i'm never going to learn.
the boab ball was last night, it was a winner. it was just afterwards that it kind of all fell to shit.
unbeknownst to me i managed to make a bad situation even worse and now i don't really know what to do.
my p'rents will be in town tomorrow (!!!) and then we're going to broome for a few days. will be good to get out of town and leave things be for a while.
but who knows what shit i'll come back to. | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |
| so you know those lovely kittens i mentioned a little while ago?

the girl-cat
looks like we've found a home for them when ramona leaves at the start of june. one of the nurses at work has an 8 year old daughter who would love to have them.
i had seriously been considering keeping them and taking them to darwin & wherever else i go in life, but thought after my recent run of partying it might not be wise as i'd have DoCS/DCD/child protective services coming after me to take away the children from their drunken mother.
but kelly thinks it will be good for me - if i have some creatures to be responsible for it means i won't go off and get so horribly drunk, i'll make myself go home earlier to care for my new children.
i don't want to disappoint the young girl who is expecting 2 little kittens, but i would still love to keep them and love them to pieces.
they're still unnamed, but we can distinguish between the two because their personalities are so different. based on that, we've been calling the boy cat owen (after one of the medboys). and i think it's equally valid to call the girl cat james. | comments: 7 comments or Leave a comment |
